Weresisters Volume 1 John Patrick Kennedy Shelley Stoehr Books

First off, I have to admit that I am a Twilight fan. I know that there are a lot of haters of that series out there but I am a grown adult who simply adored it - especially the werewolf aspects of the story. That being said, I haven't found many writers that have been able to capture my attention since, until now. John Patrick Kennedy has given us an incredibly gripping and original story about a set of "Weresisters". Selene and Kyra are teenage sisters who, on the surface, couldn't be more different. As it turns out, they have quite a bit in common as they are both werewolves and both end up having to fight for their lives. This was such a great first book and promises to be a killer series (pun intended). So well-written with the set up of some great story lines and super interesting characters. Very well done.

Weresisters Volume 1 John Patrick Kennedy Shelley Stoehr Books Reviews

Wow! Kennedy pairs up with Stoehr to deliver an action packed paranormal story that will keep you up at night. Well developed characters, excellent writing makes for a great read. I loved Kennedy's "Plague of Angels" and was delighted to see him write in another genre and teaming up with established author Shelley Stoehr. Two stories in one - Kyra, a teen who just wants to be normal but... and Selene a tough leader of a gang, oh and she's a werewolf too...

Weresisters will entertain readers both young and old alike who love paranormal fantasy thrillers with a werewolf twist .
Kyra does not have an ordinary life. She has a “different” relationship with her adoptive father than most. She can “mind-speak” with him. This is not at all what she had planned for her junior year. Then something else happens- Kyra becomes a werewolf. There is also a madman after Kyra with plans to use her as an experiment.
Selene is also a werewolf- the meanest of the brood. Selene must control her bloodlust after a murder leaves her feening. She does not like what she has become and runs away to try to escape her fate.
This young adult novel is so well written and was extremely hard to put down. I read this book in two days and was very attached to both characters. What I liked was how Kennedy split the book into 2 sections. Part 1 was Kyra’s story and Part 2 was Selene’s story. Two completely different point of views. Excellent story, must read!!
This is an interesting story of a girl who’s been adopted and then finds out she’s a werewolf and has a mother and twin sister all at the same time. There were some twists in the story that weren’t that surprising and they only made the leading girl Kyra look not so bright. Maybe that’s too harsh to say but I as a reader figured out things that were way too obvious before she did.

Kyra also made some really stupid decisions. On one hand I understood what drove her to it and that she’s only 16 but on the other hand 16 doesn’t equal stupid either so she should have thought some things through before acting on it.

I didn’t expect the second part from Selene’s point of view. We follow her after she runs away and I preferred her story over Kyra’s. All in all a good read.
I love when authors use supernatural situations to help their characters mature. I’ve always felt that it more accurately defines what it feels like to grow up than realistic “everyday” plots. You don’t quite feel human when you’re in junior high and early high school. You definitely feel like you don’t fit in anywhere. As a result, I’ve always been drawn to supernatural stories.

What I loved about this book was the unique twist on the werewolf genre. With the plot being split in half between Kyra and her sister Selene, you see sisters who were raised is complete opposite ways. Both sisters are dealing with maturing and their own internal struggles—Kyra’s because she doesn’t know who she truly is or that she’s being tracked and Selene’s because she’s been manipulated and is resisting the consequences of protecting her sister.

All the characters are well written and the dialogue flows smoothly, which are both important characteristics to me. I really enjoyed reading this and was surprised at how quickly I flew through the book. Very entertaining read.
I have a hard time getting into werewolf novels sometimes because lately they seem to be driven in a direction that doesn’t even echo their abilities. This is especially true when it comes to YA novels where romance seems to drive everything. This luckily isn’t the case with Weresisters though.
Instead, the reader is presented with an exciting two part story that follows the life of sisters split up at birth. They both know they’re different but can’t place how until they hit a certain age. Suddenly they’re both battling newly found powers as werewolves which try everything they once know. Each sister deals with the problem differently, but in both cases they’re followed by an unknown person who aims to kill them.
The story is both exciting and complex which makes it a great read for all ages. I can’t wait to hear more about the sister as I believe their characters and story are just starting out. I am especially eager to see how these two might work as a pair. I’d recommend this to YA fans, as well as anyone looking for a story that isn't driven by romance.
Weresisters (Book 1) by John Patrick Kennedy is a 432 page young adult book. It has two parts, each in different points of view. Part 1 has thirteen chapters and part two has fifteen. At the end is an epilogue to tie the story up nicely.
If you like werewolf stories then this is a series to dive into. I liked the idea of the sisters being separated at birth. The story unfolds nicely. It was interesting to learn how each sister was raised so differently. Normally I would not like different points of view but it definitely worked in this story. Unique idea.

I know that there are a lot of haters of that series out there but I am a grown adult who simply adored it - especially the werewolf aspects of the story.
